Homework is meant to be a review of the daily lessons. Your child should be able to share knowledge of the lesson with you as they do their homework.
Homework math pages are usually from the day of, or the day before. See the "Links" page for help on accessing our math program from home.
The first three weeks in school for Language Arts was called "Start Smart" which was a review of Kindergarten skills. On the fourth week of school we will begin our first unit in Language Arts. You will notice that the homework cover sheet looks slightly different. Spelling words are now going to go home every week. You will see these on the right hand side of the cover sheet in the pencil image. Also, at the bottom of the page are high frequency words that I will choose from for bonus words (extra credit or they take the place of a missed spelling word if the bonus word is spelled correctly). There will also be a short dictation sentence the students will try their best in correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalizations.
It is VERY important to read nightly with your child and fill out the minutes in the log on the back of the cover sheet. There are questions underneath the log that can help guide you in discussions with your child about the story he/she is reading. These are the types of questions we use to create higher order of thinking (beyond basic recall).
*Homework goes home on Monday and is due on Friday!
**Doing homework at the same time every day (or trying), having a quiet place to work, and having your support will make homework time more successful. If your child needs to take breaks every few minutes, please do so to keep frustration levels down. Homework should be a productive time students feel comfortable doing. Avoiding frustration by taking quick breaks can really help!
